Simon Wells' breathtaking account of life and murder with Manson and the Family, charting the influence of the Beatles, the Beach Boys and the Black Panthers on their enduring legacy of horror.

Charles Manson Coming Down Fast A Chilling Biography (Audible Audio Edition) Simon Wells Peter Curran Talking Music Books

While Wells offers a lot of new information, and more details about known episodes, the book also suffers from some credibility gaps in basic facts—

— Dennis Wilson's house was not within walking distance of the Whiskey-Go-Go, it was 10 miles west.
— Identities are mislabeled in some photographs
p.200 Wilson's home was not a beach house
p. 218 The prison was Sybil Brand, not "Branch".
p. 225 The Tate pool was not horseshoe shaped outside the kitchen, but kidney shaped outside Sharon's bedroom.
p. 225 Sharon's actress friend spelled her name Joanna Pettet, not Pettit.
p. 234 Steve Parent drove a Rambler not an Ambassador.
p. 249 Portola Drive is not in Pasadena, but 1 mile north of Cielo off Benedict Canyon.
p. 250 The car would not be pulling off of Iverson onto the Spahn Ranch but off of Santa Suzanna.
p. 252 Manson himself has claimed that he left the eyeglasses at the Tate residence to throw off the investigation.
p. 256 Cielo Drive is not a cul-de-sac.
p. 270 Tex, Leslie (not Linda), and Katie enter the LaBianca residence.
p. 318 The tiny bathroom at the Barker Ranch is in the front of the house not the back.

Not counting the British spellings, there are at least a dozen typos throughout the text. Sloppy editing like this throws a lot of suspicion on the rest of the information offered.

Charles Manson Coming Down Fast A Chilling Biography (Audible Audio Edition) Simon Wells Peter Curran Talking Music Books Reviews

Another really good book on Manson and the family. I would read this one again.
I have read every book about Charles Manson and his various associates and was beginning to think I knew every facet of this tale. I was wrong. This book is up to date with all the latest facts, interviews and relevant news intertwined into an engaging, factual and nonpartisan story. This is an excellent and thorough read for anyone interested in the Charles Manson case or true crime in general.
I thought I knew pretty much everything about the Manson murders, but this book provided lots of new information and really delved into Manson's life prior to the murders, particularly with regard to the Gary Hinman murder. Manson did have a tough life, but he had plenty of opportunities to redeem himself; he just chose not to take them. A gripping read, but there were some problems.

First of all, this author needed an editor desperately. There were many, many examples of grammatical errors, typos, and poor sentence construction. Further, some of the sections were taken almost directly from "Helter Skelter." There were also some sections that I felt could not be substantiated.

Overall, however, if you are interested in this subject, this is a must-read book.
I would place this book as equal or surpassing The Family and Shadow Over Santa Susanna.

It has more NEW information than any Manson book written in a long time. I read many things for the first time in this book.
This arthur as done his homework.

As far as grammatical and other editing errors I did not notice that. I did notice that this is an English writer and many of the words he uses are simply the words British people use in everyday speaking. It may be a little confusing but it certainly doesn't detract from the hard work this man put into his book.

The book may not be as exciting as those 2 others but in you want new, never before published information on these horrible crimes, then this is the book for you.

I was very pleasantly inpressed and I hope this arthur writes a sequel.
this is a great long informative book
Not the best on the subject. But a fairly good depiciton of the story. I had to replace some of the British terminology in my mind while reading it. It seemed odd to me to read such a bizarre story of American crime in such a way. I'm only pointing this out because I felt it strange. It may mean nothing else to anyone, but it's what happened to me while reading it. I've read most books on the subject and reviews of nearly every Manson book. This one is ok, not as good as The Family, Shadow Over Santasusana, Will You Die For Me, or In His Own Words.
I had read some negative reviews on this book so I never got it. I ran out of books to read so I ordered it anyway. This is in the top 5 of Manson books. If you're into the hysteria, myth, and exaggeration of the case, this is not the book for you. It is a fact based account and thoroughly researched. I thought it was well written and flowed along easily. I rarely noticed any serious spelling, editing, or grammar issues. 1) It details better than any other source the many Manson recording sessions in late sixties, there were more than 2. 2) More background info on key players. This book was published in Britain, so he uses very British terms for everything, but it's easy to figure out what he's referencing. Info is up to date as of 2007. He obviously did a lot of research for this book and interviewed many key players and even people at Apple in England. If you have to read everything, this one is good. Would have liked to have more info on the children of Charlie.
